Planning a Season of RV Activities Around Idaho
A good travel diary starts before the wheels turn. Many Idaho RVers find it helpful to map out a loose season plan: short shakedown trips close to Boise in spring, longer mountain and lake runs in summer, and quieter shoulder-season getaways in early autumn when campgrounds thin out. Writing down where you went, what worked and what you would change makes every following trip smoother.
Spring: shakedown trips and checklists
After winter storage, a one- or two-night outing near home is the easiest way to spot problems before a long haul. Check tyre pressure and tread, test the batteries, run the water system to find leaks, and confirm that propane appliances, lights and brakes all behave as they should. Note anything unusual in your diary so you can raise it with a technician. Our service and parts team can help with seasonal inspections and the small fixes that tend to show up after months of sitting.
Summer: mountains, rivers and reservations
Idaho's high country, river canyons and lakes draw plenty of visitors during the warmer months, so popular campgrounds often fill early. Booking ahead through the relevant public land agency or private park is wise, and it pays to check road conditions, fire restrictions and site length limits before you set off. Mountain grades put extra strain on brakes and transmissions, so keep an eye on engine temperature and use lower gears on long descents.
Autumn: quieter roads and winter prep
Cooler weather brings calmer campgrounds and colourful scenery, but nights at elevation can drop below freezing quickly. Carry extra layers, watch forecasts closely and know how to protect exposed water lines. When the season ends, a proper winterising routine, covering draining tanks, adding RV antifreeze where recommended and maintaining batteries, protects your investment until spring.
Keeping your own diary
A simple log of mileage, fuel stops, campsites, maintenance tasks and favourite stops becomes surprisingly valuable over time. It helps with budgeting, resale records and choosing your next destination. If your diary shows you have outgrown your current rig, browsing our used RVs or new RVs is a good place to compare layouts that suit the way you actually travel.
